Hypo Awareness Week

BACK TO MAIN INDEX

11th to 17th September

A hypo is a diabetes complication which happens when someone’s blood glucose level (also called blood sugar) is too low, usually below 4mmol/l. This can be the result of an imbalance between diabetes medication (especially insulin), food and physical activity.

Not everyone who lives with diabetes will have hypos but for those who do, they can happen quickly. It’s important to know the signs of a hypo and what action to take. Symptoms can include blurred vision, sweating, being disoriented, or feeling tearful, shaky or irritable.
